How to Buy Coins Not on Coinbase (SafeMoon, Electroneum, Dash)
Short answer: You can't buy SafeMoon or Electroneum on Coinbase's exchange, and Dash is not on Coinbase's main order book. For coins that aren't listed, your options are Coinbase's in-app DEX trading or a self-custody wallet (only for on-chain tokens it supports), or a different exchange that lists the coin. Unlisted tokens carry much higher risk, and SafeMoon's executives were criminally charged in 2023 and its CEO was later convicted of fraud.
Is the coin on Coinbase? How to check
- Search the coin in the Coinbase app. If the asset page shows a Buy button, it's tradable for your region.
- If Coinbase shows only a price page or says the asset is "not tradable on Coinbase", the exchange doesn't list it. A price page is information, not a listing.
- Availability varies by country and state, so a coin tradable for a friend abroad may not be for you.
| Coin | On Coinbase's exchange? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| SafeMoon | No | Coinbase's price page says it is not tradable on Coinbase. |
| Electroneum (ETN) | No | Not offered on Coinbase. |
| Dash | Not on the main order book | Only reachable through Coinbase's in-app DEX trading, as a token version on the Base network, not native Dash. |
Your options for buying unlisted coins
1. Coinbase's in-app DEX trading
Coinbase offers in-app trading of many on-chain tokens through decentralized exchanges. This is not the same as a Coinbase listing: Coinbase is routing your trade to on-chain liquidity, network fees apply, prices can move against you (slippage), and the tokens have not been through the same review as exchange-listed assets. Be especially careful that you pick the right contract; look-alike tokens with copied names are common.
A "wrapped" or bridged version of a coin (like a Base-network Dash token) tracks the original only as long as the bridge or issuer behind it works. It is not the same as holding the native coin on its own blockchain.
2. A self-custody wallet such as Coinbase Wallet
Coinbase Wallet is a separate app where you hold your own keys. It can swap tokens on the blockchains it supports. That gives you access to many tokens, but you take on full responsibility: lose the recovery phrase and the funds are gone, approve a malicious contract and it can drain your wallet. Coins on their own blockchains (like native Electroneum or Dash) need a wallet that supports that chain. See Coinbase Wallet vs Coinbase and our wallets hub.
3. Another exchange that lists the coin
The traditional route is: buy a major coin on Coinbase, send it to an exchange that lists the token, and trade there. Before you do:
- Check that the other exchange legally serves your country and state. Some offshore exchanges don't, and US enforcement has hit several, including KuCoin, which pleaded guilty in 2025 and agreed to exit the US.
- Expect two sets of trading fees plus a network fee for the transfer. See sending crypto from Coinbase.
- Send a small test transaction first and double-check the network.
For regulated alternatives, compare in our Coinbase alternatives guide. Note that more listings is not automatically better.
Why a coin isn't on Coinbase can matter
Exchanges skip or delist tokens for many reasons: low liquidity, legal or regulatory concerns, security issues, or lack of demand. You don't always know which reason applies, but the absence of a major listing is one signal to investigate harder, not a hidden opportunity.
SafeMoon: what happened
- A federal jury convicted Karony in May 2025 of conspiracy to commit securities fraud, wire fraud and money laundering.
- He was sentenced to 100 months in prison and ordered to forfeit about $7.5 million, according to the US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York.
- News reports say Smith pleaded guilty before trial and that Nagy remains at large.
If you already hold SafeMoon, be wary of anyone promising recovery of losses for a fee. "Fund recovery" offers are a common follow-on scam.
Electroneum and Dash
Electroneum (ETN) is a project focused on mobile payments with its own blockchain. Because it isn't on Coinbase, buying it means using an exchange that lists it and a wallet that supports its chain. Check that the exchange serves your location.
Dash is a long-running payments-focused coin. On Coinbase you can only reach a Base-network token version through in-app DEX trading. If you want native Dash on its own blockchain, you'd need an exchange that lists it and a Dash-compatible wallet.
A risk checklist for any unlisted token
- Liquidity: can you actually sell it later without moving the price?
- Contract and chain: are you sure you have the real token?
- Team and legal history: search the project name with "SEC", "lawsuit" and "hack".
- Concentration: do a few wallets hold most of the supply?
- Exit plan: where will you sell, and what will it cost?
Our framework for evaluating coins walks through these in more depth. And because small tokens can rise and crash fast, understanding crypto market cycles matters even more here.
Bottom line
SafeMoon and Electroneum aren't available on Coinbase's exchange, and Dash is only reachable as a token version through DEX trading. You can get unlisted coins elsewhere, but every extra step adds fees, custody risk and scam exposure. Treat a missing listing as a reason to dig deeper, and never put in more than you can lose.
FAQ
How do I buy SafeMoon on Coinbase?
You can't on Coinbase's exchange; Coinbase says SafeMoon is not tradable there. Its executives were charged by the SEC and DOJ in 2023 and its CEO was convicted in 2025.
Can I buy Electroneum with Coinbase?
Not directly. You would need an exchange that lists ETN and a wallet that supports its blockchain. Confirm the exchange serves your location first.
How do I buy Dash with Coinbase?
Dash isn't on Coinbase's main order book. A Base-network token version may be reachable through in-app DEX trading, with network fees and extra risk. Native Dash requires another exchange.
Can I use Coinbase Wallet to buy coins not on Coinbase?
For tokens on blockchains Coinbase Wallet supports, you can swap into them, but you hold the keys and bear the risk of scams and mistakes.
Will Coinbase add SafeMoon or Electroneum?
Coinbase doesn't pre-announce listing decisions, and we can't predict them. Be wary of anyone claiming insider knowledge of a coming listing.
