Risk Disclaimer
In short: Everything on this site is general education. It is not financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and it does not consider your personal situation. Cryptocurrency is highly volatile and you can lose some or all of the money you put in.
No advice
We explain how exchanges, wallets, fees and investing concepts work. We do not recommend buying, selling or holding any asset. Talk to a licensed professional about decisions that affect your finances or taxes.
Crypto-specific risks
- Volatility: prices can fall sharply in hours or days.
- Platform risk: exchanges and lenders can fail, freeze withdrawals or be hacked. Several well-known platforms have gone bankrupt (see what happened to BlockFi and Voyager).
- Self-custody risk: if you hold your own keys and lose your recovery phrase, nobody can recover your funds (see wallets).
- Scams: impersonation scams that pretend to be exchange support are common. Exchanges will never ask for your password, 2-step codes or recovery phrase.
- Regulation and taxes: rules differ by country and state and can change. See our tax basics.
